Origin

Viva Voce, formerly known as PfizerPfonics was established in Cork in September 2003 under Musical Director, Bernadette Kiely. The Choir has grown from strength to strength with new members coming from far and near to make up a vibrant group of mixed voices of approximately 50 people.

The Choir

Viva Voce is an adult mixed voice choir with an SATB formation. It is a fun and friendly but hard working choir. It creates an atmosphere of enjoyment for its members while producing vocal sounds that have awarded some prestigious results over the years.

Winners of the National Mixed Voice Competition in 2014 and 2016.
Winners of the Perpetual Trophy for the Performance of Irish Contemporary Choral Music in 2008 and 2009.
Winners in Mixed Voice and Sacred Music competitions at Feis Maitiú Cork
Other Awards in Mixed Voice and Sacred Music Competitions in New Ross and Limerick.
The choir has taken part in many choral festivals and competitions both nationally and internationally and has visited and performed in a number of European Countries.
The choirs typical year is made up of performances, competitions, Carol Recitals and Charity Fundraising events, particularly at Christmas time.

TRAVEL

The Choir travel abroad every 2 years. We have participated at Festivals in Vienna, Nice, Riva del Garde, Rome, Amsterdam and the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2010, we were invited to take part in the RTE, An Cór, an all Ireland choir competition which was shown on National Television. In 2017 the choir performed Faure Requiem in Galway and Cork with choirs from Galway and Rome.

The choir’s repertoire covers a wide range of music from Sacred, Classical, Folk, Modern and Jazz but always focusing on our collective produced sound, trying to create the best we can in an enjoyable friendly welcoming surrounding.
